Amazon is finally announcing the launch of Amazon Prime Music in Australia.

The service will bring more than two million songs and hand-curated playlists to Prime members down under.  The service brings ad-free listening with unlimited skips for Prime members alongside integration with Alexa.

Some of the most popular playlists on Amazon Prime Music include “Pop Hits,” “Hip-Hop Workout,” “Upbeat Indie Hits,” and “Relaxing Alternative.” To cater to the Australian audience, Prime Music is launching a new “Made in Australia” playlist with new covers of classic songs from local artists.

Amazon Music Unlimited has been available in Australia since its launch earlier this year.  However, this separate service is a paid upgrade that offered no free equivalent in Australia until today’s launch of Prime Music.

Any Prime member in Amazon can now ask Alexa to play a variety of songs, artists, or albums. Alexa can even match music to the listener’s mood by asking her to play relaxing, happy, upbeat, or even sad music.

Amazon Prime officially launched in June of this year, so the addition of Prime Music this month is much needed to make the service competitive with Spotify. Evan Graj, Head of Prime in Australia says Amazon is looking to bring more benefits to Australian Prime subscribers soon.

“The addition of Prime Music to the already extensive entertainment and delivery benefits is just the beginning, and we look forward to continuing to grow the experience for members over the coming months and years,” Graj emailed.

Amazon has been expanding its original content library for Prime subscribers with new documentaries and original programming.

A new feature-length documentary about British band Coldplay is coming to Amazon Prime Video later this year.

The documentary features never-before-seen footage from Coldplay’s ‘A Head Full of Dreams’ tour, which is ranked as the third biggest tour of all time.
